Homework
At Francis Baily Primary School, we believe that learning continues well beyond the classroom. Homework helps children practise key skills, develop independence, and share their learning with family members at home. Regular homework supports good study habits, self-discipline and a sense of responsibility, preparing pupils for the next stage of their education.
Our Approach
- Homework is purposeful and age-appropriate
- Tasks reinforce classroom learning, especially in reading, spelling and maths
- Expectations and timetables are shared at the start of each academic year
- Each pupil has a Homework Planner to record reading, notes and teacher comments.
Homework time increases gradually as children progress through school, with clear guidance provided annually for each year group.

Supporting Your Child
We encourage parents and carers to:
- Provide a quiet space and regular time for homework
- Show interest and celebrate effort as much as results
- Contact the class teacher if your child needs extra support.
Together, we help children develop lifelong learning habits and take pride in their achievements, both in school and at home.
